Historical information
In the
protected dunes of the former Estate of Prince Charles, a unique historical
site of modern fortification has been preserved. Two different tours
are possible in the open-air museum. The first tour, focusing on the
First World War, shows the position of the Aachen battery (built in 1915)
and a number of mens quarters and the necessary facilities (oilet bunker,
storage room, and a first aid station) of the Second World War. The second
tour brings the visitors along the well-preserved positions of the "Saltzwedel
neu" battery (1941). The open-air museum is the ideal place in you want
to taste the atmosphere of the "Longest Day".
